MSc (Applied Geosciences) FT / PT

The MSc (Applied Geosciences) programme provides graduates with further training in the applied geosciences for career and or personal development.

Students may choose one of the Themes: Engineering Geology, Engineering Geology with HKIE Approved Courses, or General Applied Geosciences Themes. All Themes have core courses in professional studies and a dissertation project.

Engineering Geology Theme (1 year full-time or 2 years part-time)
This option aims to help engineering geologists improve their performance in professional work. Engineers and scientists wanting to advance their understanding of geology and the work of the engineering geologist are also invited to apply for admission. The theme concentrates on the application of geology and mechanics in geotechnical engineering and the development of engineering geological skills.

Engineering Geology with HKIE Approved Courses Theme (2 years part-time)
This option provides the additional courses which graduates in Earth Sciences or Geology would need to meet the entry requirements of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers in the Geotechnical Discipline. These courses have been approved by the HKIE.

General Applied Geosciences (1 year full-time or 2 years part-time)
This option provides an introduction to the earth sciences.

Mode of Attendance

Full Time (one year, including daytime, evening and occasional meetings scheduled on Saturdays or Sundays for field trips and site visits)

Part Time (two years, including evening and occasional meetings scheduled on Saturdays or Sundays for field trips and site visits)

Programme Entrance Requirements

Applicants for the Engineering Geology Theme and the Engineering Geology with HKIE Approved Courses Theme should possess a Bachelor's degree with First or Second Class Honours in Science, Engineering or a related subject. Applicants for the General Applied Geosciences Theme should possess a Bachelor's degree with First or Second Class Honours in any subject.
