Master of Architecture

A Bachelor of Arts in Architectural Studies [BA(Arch Stud)] from the University of Hong Kong, or a qualification of equivalent standard from another University or comparable institution accepted for this purpose; a student without an architecture degree shall not be deemed eligible for admission.

Master of Housing Management

To be eligible for admission to the courses leading to the degree of Master of Housing Management, candidates
(a) shall comply with the General Regulations and the Regulations for Taught Postgraduate Curricula; and
(b) shall hold
(i) a Bachelor's degree with honours of this University; or
(ii) a qualification of equivalent standard of this University or another university or comparable institution accepted for this purpose (Note 1); and
(iii) satisfy the examiners in a qualifying examination if required.                                                                                                                                              

Note 1: Qualifications which are accepted include:
(a) a Professional Diploma in Housing Management awarded by the HKU School of Professional and Continuing Education and possession of at least five years' work experience in the housing field; or
(b) full membership of the Hong Kong Institute of Housing (MHKIH) and possession of at least five years' work experience in the housing field (at least two of which must be post-qualification); or
(c) chartered membership of the Chartered Institute of Housing (MCIH) and possession of at least five years' work experience in the housing field (at least two of which must be post-qualification). 

Candidates who hold these qualifications, if selected, shall not be offered admission until they have satisfied the examiners in a qualifying examination to test their academic ability to follow the courses of study prescribed.  The qualifying examination shall consist of one or more written papers and shall be set prior to the final selection of candidates for admission into the curriculum.

Master of Landscape Architecture

A Bachelor of Arts (Landscape Studies) or Bachelor of Arts (Architectural Studies) degree of the University of Hong Kong or a similar degree from a comparable institution accepted for this purpose. A student without a degree in a design-related field shall not be deemed eligible for admission.

Master of Science in Conservation / Postgraduate Diploma in Conservation

PDip/MSc(Conservation) students are from diverse building- or non-building-related and nonprofessional backgrounds, and from private practices and government organizations. To date, the following professions, in both private practice and government service, are represented in the programme:

  3. Career relevance.
Master of Science in Construction Project Management

1. A Bachelor's degree of this University or a qualification of equivalent standard from this University or another comparable institution accepted for this purpose;
2. A minimum of one year of work experience, some of which should be of relevance to the course applied (for part-time students only).

Master of Science in Real Estate
  1. A Bachelor's degree of this University or a qualification of equivalent standard from this University or another comparable institution accepted for this purpose;
  2. Preferably a minimum of one year of work experience, some of which should be of relevance to the course applied (for part-time students only).
Master of Science in Urban Planning
  1. A Bachelor's degree with honours of The University of Hong Kong; or, an equivalent qualification from another university or comparable institution.
  2. Must satisfy the University's English language requirement.
Master of Urban Design
  1. A solid Bachelor's degree in a relevant field from a recognised university.
  2. Must satisfy the University's English language requirement.
Master of Arts in Applied Linguistics
  1. A Bachelor's degree with good honours from this University or equivalent qualifications.
  2. Candidates may be invited to take a qualifying examination and attend an interview.
Master of Arts in the field of Chinese Historical Studies
  1. A Bachelor's degree with good honours from a recognised university, or equivalent qualifications.
  2. Candidates may be invited to take a qualifying examination.
Master of Arts in the field of Chinese Language and Literature

1. A Bachelor's degree with good honours with a major in Chinese from a recognised university, or equivalent qualifications.

2. Candidates may be invited to take a qualifying examination.

Master of Arts in the field of English Studies

1. A Bachelor's degree with good honours with a major in English or a closely related subject from a recognised university.

2. An entrance examination and interview may be used to ascertain the most suitable candidates.

Master of Arts in the field of Linguistics

1. A Bachelor's degree with good honours with a major in linguistics or a closely related subject from a recognised university.

2. Candidates will be invited to take a qualifying examination.

Master of Arts in the field of Literary and Cultural Studies
  1. A Bachelor's degree (in any discipline) with good honours from a recognised university, or equivalent qualifications.
  2. Candidates may be invited to have email and/or phone interview(s).
Master of Buddhist Studies
  1. A Bachelor's degree with good honours from a recognised universiy, or equivalent qualifications.
  2. Candidates who do not hold a Bachelor's degree with honours of this University or another qualification of equivalent standard may in exceptional circumstances be permitted to register if they demonstrate adequate preparation for studies at a Master's degree level and satisfy the examiners in a qualifying examination.
Master of Fine Arts in the field of Creative Writing in English
  1. A good Bachelor's degree from a recognised university, or equivalent qualifications, and a sample of creative writing in English.
  2. English majors and applicants majoring in the following fields will be given high priority: literary, language and communication studies; journalism; translation; drama; media and cultural studies; music; fine arts; and law.
  3. Applicants are required to submit a sample of original creative writing in English for evaluation. The sample may be a short story, a chapter in a novel, a selection of poems, scenes from a play, or excerpts from a memoir or another type of creative nonfiction. The sample is expected to have 10-12 pages, printed on one side of A4 paper. Candidates may be asked to attend an interview as part of the selection process.
Master of Business Administration

1. Bachelor's degree of this University or a qualification of equivalent;
2. Satisfactory GMAT score (the GMAT code for the MBA programme is FS2-WL-61)*;
3. Minimum TOEFL 550 (paper-based)/80 (internet-based), or IELTS 6.5 band with no subtest lower than 5.5**; and
4. At least two years of postgraduate full-time work experience

*For the part-time programme, applicants with more than seven years of postgraduate full-time work experience might be exempted from this requirement. Exemption, if any, will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

**An applicant seeking admission on the basis of a qualification from a university outside Hong Kong of which the language of teaching and/or examination is not English shall have to fulfil the University's English language requirement for admission.

Master of Business Adminstration (International)

General Stream:

  1. A recognised Bachelor's degree or equivalent;
  2. At least three years' successful business full time work experience; and
  3. Satisfactory GRK score, or
  4. Minimum GMAT 580, or minimum TOEFL 550 (paper-based)/80 (internet-based), or IELTS (Academic Training) 6.0 band with no subtest lower than 5.5 or equivalent

Executive Stream:

  1. A recognised Bachelor's degree or equivalent;
  2. At least seven years' successful business full time work experience, with minimum three years in the management position; and
  3. Satisfactory English Admission Test score, or
  4. Minimum GMAT 580, or minimum TOEFL 550 (paper-based)/80 (internet-based), or IELTS (Academic Training) 6.0 band with no subtest lower than 5.5 or equivalent

*An applicant who is seeking admission on the basis of a qualification from a university outside Hong Kong of which the language of teaching and/or examination is not English shall have to fulfill the University's English language requirement for admission.

Executive Stream of Master of Business Administration
  1. A Bachelor's degree granted by a recognised university or an equivalent qualification; and
  2. Minimum 5 years of working experience; and
  3. Take GMAC Executive Assessment, GMAT or GRE test
Master of Economics

1. A recognised Bachelor's degree or equivalent; and

2. A TOEFL/IELTS score* if an applicant is not from an English teaching university.

*A score of 577 or above (paper-based test), 233 (computer-based test), or 90 (internet-based test) in TOEFL, or a minimum overall band of 7 with no subtest lower than 6.5 in IELTS is required.

Master of Finance

1. A recognised Bachelor's degree or equivalent;
2. Statements from two referees; and
3. A TOEFL/IELTS score* if an applicant is not from an English teaching university.
*A score of 577 or above (paper-based test), 233 (computer-based test), or 90 (internet-based test) in TOEFL, or a minimum overall band of 7 with no subtest lower than 6.5 in IELTS is required.

Master of Dental Surgery in Endodontics
  1. A BDS degree of this University or an equivalent qualification.
  2. A minimum of one year of working experience.
  3. Primary Fellowship preferred but not essential.
Master of Dental Surgery in Implant Dentistry
  1. A BDS degree of this University or an equivalent qualification.
  2. A minimum of two years of clinical experience in general practice.
Master of Dental Surgery in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
  1. A BDS degree of this University or an equivalent qualification.
  2. A minimum of two years of working experience would be preferable but not essential.
Master of Dental Surgery in Paediatric Dentistry
  1. A BDS degree of this University or an equivalent qualification.
  2. Applicants should have at least one year of postgraduation experience.
Master of Dental Surgery in Periodontology
  1. A BDS degree of this University or an equivalent qualification.
  2. A minimum of one year of working experience, some of which should be of relevance to the programme applied for.
Master of Dental Surgery in Prosthodontics
  1. A BDS degree of this University or an equivalent qualification.
  2. A minimum of one year of work experience would be preferable.
Master of Dental Surgery in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics
  1. A BDS degree of this University or an equivalent qualification.
  2. A minimum of two years of general dentistry.
  3. A fellowship from one of the Colleges is desirable.
Master of Science in Community Dentistry

A BDS degree of this University or an equivalent qualification.

Master of Science in Dental Materials Science
  1. A BDS degree of this University or a degree or other qualification of equivalent first-degree standard from another university or comparable institution accepted for this purpose.
  2. To satisfy the examiners in a qualifying examination if required.
Master of Science in Implant Dentistry
  1. A BDS degree of this University or a degree or other qualification of equivalent standard from another university or comparable institution.
  2. Licence to practise dentistry in Hong Kong
  3. Limited to local dentists
Advanced Diploma in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

A Master's degree in the field of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery of this University or an equivalent qualification.

Advanced Diploma in Orthodontics

A Master's degree in the field of Orthodontics of this University or an equivalent qualification.

Master of Education
  1. A Bachelor's degree of this University or an equivalent qualification;
  2. A candidate seeking admission on the basis of a qualification from a university or comparable institution outside Hong Kong where the language of teaching and/or examination is not English is required to obtain one of the following English test scores:
    • a score of 550 or above (paper-based test) or 80 or above (internet-based test) in the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) #
    • a minimum overall band of 6 with no sub-test lower than 5.5 in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) #
    • grade C or above in either the Overseas General Certificate of Education, the International General Certificate of Secondary Education, or the Cambridge Test of Proficiency in English Language

  3. Satisfy the examiners in a qualifying examination, if required.
Master of Arts in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages

A Bachelor's degree in English Language, Linguistics, Literature or English Language Education from this University or another comparable institution. For qualifications from a university or comparable institution outside Hong Kong of which language of teaching and/or examination is not English,  a candidate is required to obtain a score of 580 or above in the paper-based TOEFL with a Test of Written English score of 4.0 or above, or a score of 80 in the internet-based TOEFL with a score of 25 or above in the Writing section; or a minimum overall band of 6.5 with no sub-test lower than 6.0 in IELTS.

Master of Science in Audiology

A Bachelor's degree in education, psychology, linguistics, physics, medicine, speech and hearing sciences or other subjects relevant to this multidisciplinary profession.

Master of Science in Information Technology in Education
  1. A Bachelor's degree of this University or a qualification of equivalent standard from this University or another comparable institution accepted for this purpose;
  2. A candidate seeking admission on the basis of a qualification from a university or comparable institution outside Hong Kong of which the language of teaching and/or examination is not English shall satisfy the University English language requirement applicable to high degrees as prescribed under General Regulation G2(b):

a) a score of 550 or above (paper-based test) or 80 or above (internet-based test) in the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) #; or
b) a minimum overall band of 6 with no sub-test lower than 5.5 in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) #;

3. Satisfy the examiners in a qualifying examination, if required.

Master of Science in Library and Information Management
  1. A Bachelor's degree of this University or a qualification of equivalent standard from this University or another comparable institution accepted for this purpose;
  2. A candidate seeking admission on the basis of a qualification from a university or comparable institution outside Hong Kong of which the language of teaching and/or examination is not English shall satisfy the University English language requirement applicable to high degrees as prescribed under General Regulation G2(b):

a) a score of 550 or above (paper-based test) or 80 or above (internet-based test) in the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) #; or

Postgraduate Diploma in Education
To be eligible for admission to the PGDE, a candidate
  1. shall comply with the General Regulations and the Regulations for Taught Postgraduate Curricula;
  2. shall hold a Bachelor's degree of this University or a qualification of equivalent standard from this University or another comparable institution accepted for this purpose;
  3. shall normally be expected to have completed a substantial portion of his/her undergraduate studies in the major subject for which he/she wishes to apply;
  4. shall normally be a serving teacher in Hong Kong schools with a minimum of one year of relevant teaching experience (for part-time applicants only);
  5. shall satisfy the examiners in a qualifying examination, if required; and
  6. for a candidate who is seeking admission on the basis of a qualification from a university or comparable institution outside Hong Kong of which the language of teaching and/or examination is not English, shall satisfy the University English language requirement applicable to high degrees as prescribed under General Regulation G2(b).

Master of Science in Engineering (Electrical and Electronic Engineering) Communications Engineering Stream
  1. Comply with the General Regulations; and
  2. Hold a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (Engineering or Computer Science) of this University or a comparable institution accepted for this purpose.
Master of Science in Engineering (Energy Engineering)
  1. Comply with the General Regulations; and
  2. Hold a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (Engineering or related sciences) of this University or a comparable institution accepted for this purpose.
Master of Science in Engineering (Environmental Engineering)
  1. Comply with the General Regulations; and
  2. Hold a Bachelor's degree from The University of Hong Kong in Engineering, or an equivalent qualification in an appropriate field of study from another university or institution of recognised standing in the following areas: Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Technology, Chemical Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or environment-related sciences.
Master of Science in Engineering (Geotechnical Engineering)
  1. Comply with the General Regulations; and
  2. Hold a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from The University of Hong Kong or an equivalent qualification from another comparable university or institution.
Master of Science in Engineering (Industrial Engineering and Logistics Management)

1. Comply with the General Regulations; and
2. Hold a Bachelor's degree of this University in engineering, sciences, mathematics, statistics, related business studies, or the equivalent; or a qualification of equivalent standard from this University or another comparable institution accepted for this purpose.

People with professional qualifications equivalent to a Bachelor's degree of this University are also eligible. This will include members of the HK and UK engineering bodies, and those who have taken the UK Engineering Council examinations.

Master of Science in Engineering (Infrastructure Project Management)
  1. Comply with the General Regulations; and
  2. Hold a Bachelor's degree from The University of Hong Kong in Engineering or related fields; or an equivalent qualification from another comparable university or institution.

Candidates holding a Bachelor's degree with honours as accredited or accepted as a basis for corporate membership by the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers may also be considered.

Master of Science in Engineering (Mechanical Engineering)
  1. Comply with the General Regulations; and
  2. Hold a Bachelor's degree of this University in a relevant field; or a qualification of equivalent standard from this University or another comparable institution accepted for this purpose.
Master of Science in Engineering (Structural Engineering)
  1. Comply with the General Regulations; and
  2. Hold a Bachelor's degree from The University of Hong Kong in Civil Engineering or related fields; or an equivalent qualification from another comparable university or institution.
Master of Science in Engineering (Transportation Engineering)
  1. Comply with the General Regulations; and
  2. Hold a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from The University of Hong Kong, or an equivalent qualification from another comparable university or institution.

Degree holders in other disciplines, such as Environmental Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems Engineering, Economics, Mathematics, or Statistics, will also be considered for admission.

Juris Doctor

Applicants must hold a Bachelor degree with a major other than common law with at least second-class honours, or an equivalent qualification.

Applicants who do not have a Bachelor degree with English as the medium of instruction are required to satisfy the English language proficiency on the basis of one of the following recognised English tests:
(i) Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) A score of 100 or above (internet-based test)
(ii) International English Language Testing System (IELTS): An overall band score of 7.5 or above with no sub-test below 6.5 and a minimum band score of 7.0 for writing

The test score report is valid for two years for admissions purposes.

Master of Common Law

Applicants must comply with the General Regulations and fulfil the following requirements

(1) Hold a degree of Bachelor of Laws with at least second class honours or an equivalent qualification from a university or comparable institution in a non-common law jurisdiction

(2) Applicants who do not have a bachelor's degree with English as the medium of instruction are required to satisfy the English language proficiency on the basis of one of the following recognized English tests:

(i) Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): A score of 97 or above (internet-based test) or 593 or above (paper-based test)

(ii) International English Language Testing System (IELTS): An overall band score of 6.5 or above 

The test score report is valid for two years for admissions purpose.

Master of Laws

Applicants must comply with the General Regulations and fulfil at least one of requirements (1) or (2) below AND requirement (3)

(1) hold a degree of Bachelor of Laws with at least second class honours or an equivalent qualification accepted by the University for this purpose; or

(2) have obtained either the Common Professional Examination of England and Wales or the Common Professional Examination Certificate of this University, provided that in either case a second class honours degree or a qualification of equivalent standard of this University or another comparable institution accepted for this purpose has also been obtained.

(3) for a candidate who is seeking admission on the basis of a qualification from a university or comparable institution outside Hong Kong of which the language of teaching and/or examination is not English, shall satisfy the Faculty English language requirement with one of the following recognized English tests:

(i) Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): A score of 593 or above (paper-based test) or 97 or above (internet-based test)

(ii) International English Language Testing System (IELTS): An overall band score of 7 or above with no subtest below 6.5

The test score report is valid for two years for admissions purpose.

Master of Laws in Arbitration and Dispute Resolution

Applicants must comply with the General Regulations and fulfil at least one of requirements (1) to (3) below AND requirement (4)

(1) hold a degree of Bachelor of Laws with at least second class honours of this University or a qualification of equivalent standard from this University; or another comparable institution accepted for this purpose

(2) Having obtained either the Common Professional Examination of England and Wales or the Common Professional Examination Certificate of this University with good results, provided that in either case the candidate has also obtained at least a second class honours degree of this University; or a qualification of equivalent standard from this University or another comparable institution accepted for this purpose; or

(3) hold a degree in a discipline other than law with at least second class honours or a qualification of equivalent standard from this University or another comparable institution accepted for this purpose and have at least two years relevant experience and professional qualifications.

(4) Applicants who do not have a bachelor's degree with English as the medium of instruction are required to satisfy the English language proficiency on the basis of one of the following recognized English tests:

(i) Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): A score of 593 or above (paper-based test) or 97 or above (internet-based test)

(ii) International English Language Testing System (IELTS): An overall band score of 7 or above with no subtest below 6.5

The test score report is valid for 2 years for admissions purpose.

Master of Laws in Chinese Law

Applicants must comply with the General Regulations and fulfil at least one of requirements (1) to (3) below AND requirement (4)

(1) hold a degree of Bachelor of Laws with at least second class honours or an equivalent qualification accepted by the University for this purpose; or

(2) hold a degree in a discipline other than law with at least second class honours accepted by the University for this purpose and have at least two years relevant experience and professional qualifications; or

(3) have obtained either the Common Professional Examination of England and Wales or the Common Professional Examination Certificate of this University, provided that in either case a second class honours degree or a qualification of equivalent standard of this University or another comparable institution accepted for this purpose has also been obtained.

(4) for a candidate who is seeking admission on the basis of a qualification from a university or comparable institution outside Hong Kong of which the language of teaching and/or examination is not English, shall satisfy the Faculty English language requirement with one of the following recognized English tests:

(i) Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): A score of 593 or above (paper-based test) or 97 or above (internet-based test)

Master of Laws in Corporate and Financial Law

Applicants must comply with the General Regulations and fulfil at least one of requirements (1) to (3) below AND requirement (4)

(1) hold a degree of Bachelor of Laws with at least second class honours or an equivalent qualification accepted by the University for this purpose; or

(2) hold a degree in a discipline other than law with at least second class honours accepted by the University for this purpose and have at least two years relevant experience and professional qualifications; or

(3) have obtained either the Common Professional Examination of England and Wales or the Common Professional Examination Certificate of this University, provided that in either case a second class honours degree or a qualification of equivalent standard of this University or another comparable institution accepted for this purpose has also been obtained.

(4) for a candidate who is seeking admission on the basis of a qualification from a university or comparable institution outside Hong Kong of which the language of teaching and/or examination is not English, shall satisfy the Faculty English language requirement with one of the following recognized English tests:

(i) Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): A score of 593 or above (paper-based test) or 97 or above (internet-based test)

Master of Laws in Human Rights

Applicants must comply with the General Regulations and fulfil at least one of requirements (1) to (3) below AND requirement (4)

(1) hold a degree of Bachelor of Laws with at least second class honours or an equivalent qualification accepted by the University for this purpose; or

(2) hold a degree in a discipline other than law with at least second class honours accepted by the University for this purpose and have at least two years relevant experience and professional qualifications; or

(3) have obtained either the Common Professional Examination of England and Wales or the Common Professional Examination Certificate of this University, provided that in either case a second class honours degree or a qualification of equivalent standard of this University or another comparable institution accepted for this purpose has also been obtained.

(4) for a candidate who is seeking admission on the basis of a qualification from a university or comparable institution outside Hong Kong of which the language of teaching and/or examination is not English, shall satisfy the Faculty English language requirement with one of the following recognized English tests:

Master of Laws in Information Technology and Intellectual Property Law

Applicants must comply with the General Regulations and fulfil at least one of requirements (1) to (3) below AND requirement (4)

(1) hold a degree of Bachelor of Laws with at least second class honours or an equivalent qualification accepted by the University for this purpose; or

(2) hold a degree in a discipline other than law with at least second class honours accepted by the University for this purpose and have at least two years relevant experience and professional qualifications; or

(3) have obtained either the Common Professional Examination of England and Wales or the Common Professional Examination Certificate of this University, provided that in either case a second class honours degree or a qualification of equivalent standard of this University or another comparable institution accepted for this purpose has also been obtained.

(4) for a candidate who is seeking admission on the basis of a qualification from a university or comparable institution outside Hong Kong of which the language of teaching and/or examination is not English, shall satisfy the Faculty English language requirement with one of the following recognized English tests:

(i) Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): A score of 593 or above (paper-based test) or 97 or above (internet-based test)

(ii) International English Language Testing System (IELTS): An overall band score of 7 or above with no subtest below 6.5

The test score report is valid for two years for admissions purpose.

Postgraduate Certificate in Laws

To be eligible for admission to the PCLL programme at the University of Hong Kong, an applicant:

1. shall at least hold a degree of Bachelor of Laws (LLB), Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent, or pass the CPE examinations or equivalent, from a university or comparable institution. The law degree must be in Common Law, normally from a Hong Kong or Commonwealth institution; and

2. will have to demonstrate competence in the following eleven 'Core' subjects: Contract, Tort, Constitutional Law, Criminal Law, Land Law, Equity, Civil Procedure, Criminal Procedure, Evidence, Business Associations, and Commercial Law; and three 'Top-up' subjects: Hong Kong Constitutional Law, Hong Kong Legal System, and Hong Kong Land Law.

Applicants who:

1. hold a law degree from a university other than one of the three universities offering such degrees in Hong Kong, or other recognised law qualification acceptable to the University of Hong Kong, may be able to demonstrate competence in the eleven 'Core' Subjects when they have been completed as follows:

(i) as part of their non-Hong Kong common law qualification; and/or
(ii) as a visiting internal student in one of the three universities awarding LLB and/or JD degrees in Hong Kong, and passing the requisite examination; and/or
(iii) by passing the relevant subject in the Hong Kong Conversion Examination for PCLL Admission.

2. have not passed all of the three 'Top-up' subjects at a university LLB/LLB double degree/JD course in Hong Kong must demonstrate competence in such subjects, and can do so in any of the following ways:

(i) as a visiting internal student in one of the three universities awarding LLB and/or JD degrees in Hong Kong, and passing the requisite examination; and/or
(ii) as part of the Graduate Diploma in English and Hong Kong Law taught and awarded in Hong Kong; and/or
(iii) by passing the relevant subject in the Hong Kong Conversion Examination for PCLL Admission.

All applicants (including native English speakers), must take the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test (the Academic module) and submit the band score obtained no later than the first Friday of August each year. No other English language test (e.g. TOEFL) will be accepted.

The prescribed minimum IELTS overall band score is 7. This is a requirement of the Hong Kong Standing Committee on Legal Education and Training. No exemptions will be granted. The Department of Professional Legal Education accepts an IELTS test result as valid where it is obtained within three years of the application deadline, i.e. for a 2017 application the test date shown on the Test Report Form cannot be earlier than April 29, 2014.

Doctor of Nursing

To be eligible for admission to the programme leading to the degree of Doctor of Nursing, candidates must:
1. comply with the University General Regulations;
2. hold a master's degree in nursing or an equivalent discipline from this University, or a comparable university accepted for this purpose;
3. currently hold a Registered Nurse Licence;
4. have English proficiency as specified by the University's admission requirements; and
5. satisfy the application evaluators with (i) a statement of overall career goals and specific research interests, and (ii) an oral justification of their suitability for doctoral education;
6. satisfy the examiners in a qualifying examination if required.

Master of Chinese Medicine in Acupuncture and Moxibustion

To be eligible for admission, a candidate shall:
(a) comply with the General Regulations but with a waiver of Regulation G2(b);
(b) comply with the Regulations for Taught Postgraduate Curricula but with a waiver of Regulation TPG2(d); and
(c) hold the degree of Bachelor of Traditional Chinese Medicine or Bachelor of Chinese Medicine of this University or a qualification of equivalent standard from another University or comparable institution accepted for this purpose; or a Bachelor's degree in medicine, dentistry, physiotherapy or another healthcare related programme and a diploma in acupuncture from a University or comparable institution accepted for this purpose.

Master of Chinese Medicine in the stream of Internal Medicine

To be eligible for admission, a candidate shall:
(a) comply with the General Regulations but with a waiver of Regulation G2(b);
(b) comply with the Regulations for Taught Postgraduate Curricula but with a waiver of Regulation TPG2(d); and
(c) hold the degree of Bachelor of Traditional Chinese Medicine/Bachelor of Chinese Medicine of this University or a qualification of equivalent standard from another University or comparable institution accepted for this purpose; or a Bachelor's degree in medicine, dentistry, physiotherapy or another healthcare related programme and a diploma in Chinese Medicine from a University or comparable institution accepted for this purpose.

Master of Clinical Pharmacy

To be eligible for admission the candidate should:
1. comply with the General Regulations; and
2. be a registered Pharmacist holding a Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy from this University, or from another university, or comparable institution accepted for this purpose; and
3. be a registered Pharmacist in Hong Kong; and
4. satisfy the examiners in a qualifying examination, if required.

Master of Medical Sciences

To be eligible for admission to the curriculum leading to the degree of Master of Medical Sciences, a candidate shall:
(a) comply with the General Regulations;
(b) comply with the Regulations for Taught Postgraduate Curricula;
(c) hold a Bachelor's degree with honours or the degrees of MBBS of this University, or another qualification of equivalent standard from this University or from another University or comparable institution accepted for this purpose; and
(d) satisfy the examiners in a qualifying examination if required.

Advanced standing of up to 12 credit units may be granted to a candidate who has successfully completed equivalent course(s) subject to approval by the Faculty Board.  Candidates seeking advanced standing should submit a written application to the Faculty Office before commencement of the study.  Such course(s) should be completed no more than 5 years prior to the candidate's commencement of the Master of Medical Sciences.

Master of Nursing

To be eligible for admission to the curriculum leading to the degree of Master of Nursing, candidates shall:
(a) comply with the General Regulations; and
(b) comply with the Regulations for Taught Postgraduate Curricula; and
(c) be a Registered Nurse holding a Bachelor's degree in nursing from this University, or from another university, or comparable institution accepted for this purpose; and
(d) be eligible for active nursing registration with the Nursing Council of Hong Kong, or its equivalent;  and
(e) satisfy the examiners in a qualifying examination if required.

Advanced standing of up to 12 credit units may be granted to a candidate who has successfully completed equivalent course(s) subject to approval by the Faculty Board. Candidates seeking advanced standing should submit a written application accompanied by academic transcript and relevant course syllabus to the School before commencement of the study.  Such course(s) should be completed no more than 5 years prior to the candidate's commencement of the Master of Nursing.

Master of Science in Environmental Management

A Bachelor's degree with Honours or an equivalent qualification. Non-local students may only apply to the full time programme.

Master of Science in Applied Geosciences

Applicants for the Engineering Geology Theme and the Engineering Geology with HKIE Approved Courses Theme should possess a Bachelor's degree with First or Second Class Honours in Science, Engineering or a related subject. Applicants for the General Applied Geosciences Theme should possess a Bachelor's degree with First or Second Class Honours in any subject.

Master of Science in Food Industry: Management and Marketing

1. A Bachelor's degree with Honours in Science of this University or equivalent qualification from another University or comparable institution accepted for this purpose. Preference will be given to those specializing in Food and Nutritional Sciences.
2. Preference will be given to those recommended by their present employers.

Master of Science in the field of Food Safety and Toxicology

A Bachelor's degree with Honours in Science. Preference will be given to those who possess a Bachelor's degree in physiology, biochemistry, biotechnology, food science, chemistry, biological sciences, clinical laboratory science, environmental sciences, pharmacology or other related disciplines.

Master of Statistics
  1. A Bachelor's degree with Honours or an equivalent qualification; and
  2. Applicants should have knowledge of matrices and calculus. Applicants for the full-time programme should also have knowledge of introductory statistics and linear modelling.
Postgraduate Diploma in Earth Sciences

A Bachelor's degree with First or Second Class Honours

Doctor of Public Administration
  1. A Bachelor's degree with honours and a taught Master's degree in Public Administration, or another qualification of equivalent standard.
  2. At least eight years' managerial experience in public administration or other related disciplines.
Doctor of Psychology (Clinical Psychology)
  1. A Master of Social Sciences in Clinical Psychology degree or an equivalent qualification
  2. Candidates shall satisfy the examiners in a qualifying examination, if required
Master of Arts in China Development Studies

Applicants will normally be required to hold a Bachelor's degree of this University or a qualification of equivalent standard from this University or another university or comparable institution accepted for this purpose. Non-local students may only apply for the full-time mode.

Doctor of Psychology (Educational Psychology)

Master of Arts in Transport Policy and Planning

1. 2. Chartered Membership of The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CMILT) is accepted by the Faculty of Social Sciences as a relevant professional qualification of equivalent standard.

Master of Expressive Arts Therapy

Applicants shall hold a Bachelor's degree with honours of HKU or an equivalent qualification from a comparable institution, preferably in a field related to social sciences, healthcare, education or arts disciplines. Candidates with qualifications other than an honours degree will be considered on their individual merits. A minimum of three years of relevant post-qualification working experience is preferred. In addition, applicants shall submit an arts portfolio to demonstrate proficiency in using at least one arts form, (visual art, music, dance, drama or poetry). Qualifying examinations to test the applicants' abilities to follow the prescribed courses and/or interviews may be conducted.

Applicants with qualifications from a university or comparable institution outside Hong Kong where the language of teaching or examination is not English are required, unless exceptionally exempte, to obtain:

  1. a score of 550 or above (paper-based test) or 80 or above (internet-based test) in the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL); or
  2. a minimum overall band of 6 with no subtest lower than 5.5 in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS); or
  3. grade C or above in either the Overseas General Certificate of Education, the International General Certificate of Secondary Education, or the Cambridge Test of Proficiency in English Language.
Master of International and Public Affairs

A Bachelor's degree with honours or an equivalent qualification.

Master of Journalism

1. A Bachelor's degree with honours or an equivalent qualification.
2. A score of 587 or above (paper-based test) or 240 or above (computer-based test) or 95 or above (Internet-based test) in the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or a minimum overall band of 7.0 with no subtest lower than 6.0 in International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is required for applicants seeking admission on the basis of a qualification from a university or comparable institution outside Hong Kong in which the language of instruction and/or examination is not English.
3. Working experience in journalism is desirable.
4. Candidates may be required to pass a qualifying examination and interview administered by the Journalism and Media Studies Centre.
5. Candidates who do not hold a Bachelor's degree with honours from this University or another qualification of equivalent standard may in exceptional circumstances be permitted to register if:
- they possess proven professional experience in journalism or in relevant professions, and
- show proof of competence in the English language, and
- satisfy the examiners in a qualifying examination, if appropriate.
6. Applicants with outstanding merits could be exempted from the qualifying examination and considered for early admission, subject to an interview with the admission panel.

Master of Public Administration

A Bachelor's degree with honours or an equivalent qualification.

Master of Social Sciences in the field of Behavioral Health

Applicants shall hold a Bachelor's degree with honours of HKU or an equivalent qualification from a comparable institution, and preferably have a minimum of two years of relevant post-qualification working experience in healthcare disciplines. Qualifying examinations to test the applicants' abilities to follow the prescribed courses and/or interviews may be conducted.

Applicants with qualifications from a university or comparable institution outside Hong Kong where the language of teaching or examination is not English are required, unless exceptionally exempted, to obtain:

  1. a score of 550 or above (paper-based test) or 80 or above (internet-based test) in the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL); or
  2. a minimum overall band of 6 with no subtest lower than 5.5 in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS); or
  3. grade C or above in either the Overseas General Certificate of Education, the International General Certificate of Secondary Education, or the Cambridge Test of Proficiency in English Language.
Master of Social Sciences in the field of Corporate Environmental Governance

A Bachelor's degree with honours or an equivalent qualification. Applicants who do not meet the above admission requirements may in exceptional circumstances be permitted to register if they demonstrate preparation for studies at this level and satisfy the examiners in a qualifying examination.

Master of Social Sciences in Clinical Psychology

1. A Bachelor's degree with honours in psychology or an equivalent qualification;
2. Candidates shall satisfy the examiners in a qualifying examination if required.

Master of Social Sciences in the field of Counselling

Applicants shall hold a Bachelor's degree with honours of HKU or an equivalent qualification from a comparable institution, and preferably have a minimum of two years of relevant post-qualification working experience. Candidates with qualifications other than an honours degree will be considered on their individual merits. Qualifying examinations to test the applicants' abilities to follow the prescribed courses and/or interviews may be conducted.

Applicants with qualifications from a university or comparable institution outside Hong Kong where the language of teaching or examination is not English are required, unless exceptionally exempted, to obtain:

Candidates should hold a Bachelor's degree with honours, or another qualification of equivalent standard, preferably with a major in the social sciences or humanities discipline, or preferably have working experience in the criminal-justice system, social-welfare agencies or in other work with offenders.
  2. Candidates without an honoured Bachelor's degree but with relevant working experiences will also be considered in exceptional cases, and shall be required to sit for a qualifying examination.
Master of Science in Engineering (Electrical and Electronic Engineering) General Stream
  1. Comply with the General Regulations; and
  2. Hold a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (Engineering or Computer Science) of this University or a comparable institution accepted for this purpose.
Master of Science in Engineering (Electrical and Electronic Engineering) Power Engineering Stream
  1. Comply with the General Regulations; and
  2. Hold a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (Engineering or Computer Science) of this University or a comparable institution accepted for this purpose.
Master of Social Sciences in Educational Psychology

1. A Bachelor's degree with honours in psychology or an equivalent qualification; and
2. Eligibility for the Graduate Membership of the Hong Kong Psychological Society; and
3. Relevant working experience in an educational or related setting is preferred; and
4. Candidates shall pass a qualifying examination if required.

Master of Social Sciences in the field of Gerontology

Applicants shall hold a Bachelor's degree with honours of HKU or an equivalent qualification from a comparable institution, and preferably have a minimum of two years of relevant post-qualification working experience. Candidates with qualifications other than an honours degree will be considered on their individual merits. Qualifying examinations to test the applicants' abilities to follow the prescribed courses and/or interviews may be conducted.

Applicants with qualifications from a university or comparable institution outside Hong Kong where the language of teaching or examination is not English are required, unless exceptionally exempted, to obtain:

(1) a score of 550 or above (paper-based test) or 80 or above (internet-based test) in the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL); or

Master of Public Health

To be eligible for admission to the curriculum leading to the Master of Public Health, a candidate shall:
(a) comply with the General Regulations;
(b) comply with the Regulations for Taught Postgraduate Curricula;
(c) hold a Bachelor's degree with honours or the degrees of MBBS of this University, or another qualification of equivalent standard from this University or from another University or comparable institution accepted for this purpose;
(d) satisfy the University English language requirement applicable to higher degrees as prescribed under General Regulation G2(b); and
(e) satisfy the examiners in a qualifying examination, if required.

Advanced standing may be granted to a candidate who has successfully completed one or more courses in the Postgraduate Diploma/Postgraduate Certificate in Public Health curricula subject to the following conditions:
(a) such course(s) should be completed no more than 5 years prior to the candidate's commencement of the Master of Public Health curriculum;
(b) such course(s) should be appropriate for the Master of Public Health concentrations the candidate has applied for; and
(c) advanced standing for up to 9 credits may be granted.

Master of Social Sciences in the field of Media, Culture and Creative Cities
  1. Candidates should hold a Bachelor's degree with honours, or another qualification of equivalent standard. Candidates without a Bachelor's degree with honours but with relevant working experiences in the media and cultural sector will also be considered in exceptional cases, and might be required to sit for a qualifying examination.
  2. Candidates must pass a face-to-face interview, and if necessary a written test will be scheduled to assess their English proficiency.
Master of Research in Medicine

MBBS students of The University of Hong Kong who have completed the fourth year of the MBBS curriculum; or those who have completed the third year of the MBBS curriculum and are already in possession of a Bachelor's degree with honours or equivalent in a science field. Candidates must have demonstrated excellent academic performance in their MBBS study.

Master of Social Sciences in the field of Mental Health

Applicants shall hold a Bachelor's degree with honours of HKU or an equivalent qualification from a comparable institution, and preferably have a minimum of two years of relevant post-qualification working experience. Candidates with qualifications other than an honours degree will be considered on their individual merits. Qualifying examinations to test the applicants' abilities to follow the prescribed courses and/or interviews may be conducted.

Applicants with qualifications from a university or comparable institution outside Hong Kong where the language of teaching or examination is not English are required, unless exceptionally exempted, to obtain:

(1) a score of 550 or above (paper-based test) or 80 or above (internet-based test) in the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL); or
(2) a minimum overall band of 6 with no subtest lower than 5.5 in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS); or
(3) grade C or above in either the Overseas General Certificate of Education, the International General Certificate of Secondary Education, or the Cambridge Test of Proficiency in English Language.

Master of Science in Chinese Medicines

To be eligible for admission, a candidate shall:
(a) comply with the General Regulations but with a waiver of Regulation G2(b);
(b) comply with the Regulations for Taught Postgraduate Curricula but with a waiver of Regulation TPG2(d); and
(c) hold
(i) the degree of Bachelor of Pharmacy in Chinese Medicine of this University, or a qualification of equivalent standard from another University or comparable institution accepted for this purpose; or
(ii) a Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy, medicine, dentistry, physiotherapy, biology, chemistry, biochemistry or another healthcare related programme, and a certificate or diploma in Pharmacy in Chinese Medicine from a University or comparable institution accepted for this purpose or at least one year's relevant work experience in the field of Chinese medicines as deemed appropriate by the Board of Studies; or
(iii) the degree of Bachelor of Chinese Medicine (BChinMed) of this University or an appropriate qualification of equivalent standard from another University or comparable institution accepted for this purpose; and a certificate or diploma in Pharmacy in Chinese Medicine from a University or comparable institution accepted for this purpose or at least one year's relevant work experience in the field of Chinese medicines as deemed appropriate by the Board of Studies.

Master of Social Sciences in the field of Nonprofit Management

Applicants must hold a Bachelor's degree with honours of HKU or equivalent qualifications from comparable institutions and preferably have three years of relevant working experience in the public, private or nonprofit sectors.  Those with qualifications other than an honours degree will be considered on their individual merits.  Qualifying examinations to test the applicants' abilities to follow the prescribed courses and/or interviews may be conducted.

Applicants with qualifications from a university or comparable institution outside Hong Kong where the language of teaching or examination is not English are required (unless exceptionally exempted) to obtain:

(a) a score of 563 or above (paper-based test) or 85 or above (internet-based test) in the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL); or
(b) a minimum overall band of 6.5 with no subtest lower than 5.5 in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS); or
(c) grade C or above in either the Overseas General Certificate of Education, the International General Certificate of Secondary Education, or the Cambridge Test of Proficiency in English Language.

Master of Social Sciences in the field of Psychology
  1. A Bachelor's degree with honours from an accredited institution in a discipline other than psychology and without completion of any other programme in psychology which is designed to bring the honours degree holder up to the standard of a graduate majoring in psychology;
  2. More than one year of working experience is preferable; and
  3. Candidates shall satisfy the examiners in a qualifying examination and interview if shortlisted.
Postgraduate Diploma in Infectious Diseases

To be eligible for admission to the curriculum leading to the Postgraduate Diploma in Infectious Diseases, a candidate shall:
(a) comply with the General Regulations;
(b) comply with the Regulations for Taught Postgraduate Curricula;
(c) hold the degrees of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery of this University, or a degree or another qualification of equivalent standard from another university or comparable institution accepted for this purpose; and
(d) satisfy the examiners in a qualifying examination, if required.

Postgraduate Diploma in Molecular and Diagnostic Pathology

To be eligible for admission to the curriculum leading to the Postgraduate Diploma in Molecular and Diagnostic Pathology, a candidate shall:
a) comply with the General Regulations;
b) comply with the Regulations for Taught Postgraduate Curricula;
c) hold a degree of MBBS of this University, or a Bachelor's degree with honors, or a qualification of equivalent standard from this University or another comparable institution accepted for this purpose;
d) satisfy the University English language requirement applicable to high degrees as prescribed under General Regulation G2(b), if he/she is seeking admission on the basis of a qualification from a university or comparable institution outside Hong Kong of which the language of teaching and/or examination is not English; and
e) satisfy the examiners in a qualifying examination, if required.

Advanced standing for up to a maximum of 12 credits, for the Postgraduate Diploma in Molecular and Diagnostic Pathology, may be granted to a candidate who has successfully completed one or more courses in the Postgraduate Certificate in Molecular and Diagnostic Pathology (PCMDPath); subject to the condition that such course(s) should be completed no more than 2 years prior to the commencement of the PDipMDPath curricula.

Master of Social Sciences in the field of Social Service Management

Applicants shall hold a Bachelor's degree with honours of HKU or an equivalent qualification from a comparable institution, and preferably have a minimum of two years of relevant post-qualification working experience. Candidates with qualifications other than an honours degree will be considered on their individual merits. Qualifying examinations to test the applicants' abilities to follow the prescribed courses and/or interviews may be conducted.

Applicants with qualifications from a university or comparable institution outside Hong Kong where the language of teaching or examination is not English are required, unless exceptionally exempted, to obtain:

(1) a score of 550 or above (paper-based test) or 80 or above (internet-based test) in the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL); or
(2) a minimum overall band of 6 with no subtest lower than 5.5 in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS); or

Master of Social Sciences in the field of Social Work - Integrated Practice with Young People Stream

Applicants shall hold a Bachelor's degree with honours of HKU or an equivalent qualification from a comparable institution, and preferably have a minimum of two years of relevant post-qualification working experience. Candidates with qualifications other than an honours degree will be considered on their individual merits. Qualifying examinations to test the applicants' abilities to follow the prescribed courses and/or interviews may be conducted.

Applicants with qualifications from a university or comparable institution outside Hong Kong where the language of teaching or examination is not English are required, unless exceptionally exempted, to obtain:

(1) a score of 550 or above (paper-based test) or 80 or above (internet-based test) in the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL); or
(2) a minimum overall band of 6 with no subtest lower than 5.5 in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS); or

Master of Social Work

Applicants shall have a good honours degree from HKU or an equivalent qualification from comparable institutions. Those with qualifications other than an honours degree will be considered on their individual merits. Qualifying examinations to test the applicants' abilities to follow the prescribed courses and/or interviews may be conducted. Applicants with qualifications from a university or comparable institution outside Hong Kong where the language of teaching or examination is not English are required (unless exceptionally exempted) to obtain:

a. a score of 550 or above (paper-based test) or 80 or above (internet-based test) in the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL); or
b.a minimum overall band of 6 with no subtest lower than 5.5 in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS); or
c.grade C or above in either the Overseas General Certificate of Education, the International General Certificate of Secondary Education, or the Cambridge Test of Proficiency in English Language.

Master of Psychological Medicine (Psychosis Studies)

To be eligible for admission to the curriculum leading to the Master of Psychological Medicine (Psychosis Studies), a candidate shall:
(a) comply with the General Regulations; and
(b) comply with the Regulations for Taught Postgraduate Curricula; and
(c) hold the degrees of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery or a Bachelor's degree in Psychology/Nursing/Social Work/Occupational Therapy or another healthcare related field of this University, or another qualifications of equivalent standard from this University or from another University or comparable institution accepted for this purpose; and
(d)  satisfy the examiners in a qualifying examination, if required.

Advanced standing may be granted to a candidate who has successfully completed the Postgraduate Diploma in Psychological Medicine (Psychosis Studies) or the Postgraduate Certificate in Psychological Medicine (Psychosis Studies) subject to the following conditions:
(a) such course(s) should be completed no more than 3 years prior to the candidate's commencement of the Master of Psychological Medicine (Psychosis Studies) curriculum; and
(b) advance standing for up to 12 credits may be granted.

Postgraduate Diploma in Psychological Medicine (Psychosis Studies)

To be eligible for admission to the curriculum leading to the Postgraduate Diploma in Psychological Medicine (Psychosis Studies), a candidate shall:
(a)  comply with the General Regulations; and
(b) comply with the Regulations for Taught Postgraduate Curricula; and
(c) hold the degrees of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery or a Bachelor's degree in Psychology/Nursing/Social Work/Occupational Therapy or another healthcare related field of this University, or another qualifications of equivalent standard from this University or from another University or comparable institution accepted for this purpose; and
(d)  satisfy the examiners in a qualifying examination, if required.

Master of Science in Computer Science (Information Security Stream)
  1. Comply with the General Regulations; and
  2. Hold a Bachelor's degree of this University or a qualification of equivalent standard from this University or another comparable institution accepted for this purpose.
Master of Science in Computer Science (Multimedia Computing Stream)
  1. Comply with the General Regulations; and
  2. Hold a Bachelor's degree of this University or a qualification of equivalent standard from this University or another comparable institution accepted for this purpose.
Master of Science in Computer Science (Financial Computing Stream)
  1. Comply with the General Regulations; and
  2. Hold a Bachelor's degree of this University or a qualification of equivalent standard from this University or another comparable institution accepted for this purpose.
Doctor of Education

Applicants should
1. hold a Bachelor's degree with second class honours and a taught Master's degree; or a Bachelor's degree with first class honours; and
2. demonstrate a record of at least 4 years of professional experience in an educational institution or services in the education sector or other relevant sectors as judged appropriate by the Faculty.

Master of Science in Integrated Project Delivery

The basic admission requirement is a recognised Bachelor degree in a relevant discipline or qualifications deemed to be equivalent plus, normally, a minimum of two years' post-degree practical experience in design, procurement, construction, policy-making or management of buildings, projects or urban districts, or an approved related industry field.

To be eligible for admission to the curriculum leading to the Master of Science in Integrated Project Delivery, a candidate shall:
1. comply with the General Regulations and the Regulations for Taught Postgraduate Curricula;
2. hold a Bachelor's degree with Honours in a relevant field of this University or from a comparable institution accepted for this purpose;
3. produce proof of relevant work experience (normally a minimum of two years of post-degree practical experience in design, procurement, construction, policy-making or management of buildings, projects or urban districts, or an approved related field), including a curriculum vitae, at least one letter of reference from a relevant employer, and any other supplementary document as determined by the Programme Director;
4. be fluent in both spoken and written English; and
5. satisfy the examiners in a qualifying examination if required.

Master of Laws in Compliance and Regulation

Applicants must comply with the General Regulations and fulfil at least one of requirements (1) to (3) below AND requirement (4)

(1) hold a degree of Bachelor of Laws with at least second class honours or an equivalent qualification accepted by the University for this purpose; or

(2) hold a degree in a discipline other than law with at least second class honours accepted by the University for this purpose and have at least two years relevant experience and professional qualifications; or

(3) have obtained either the Common Professional Examination of England and Wales or the Common Professional Examination Certificate of this University, provided that in either case a second class honours degree or a qualification of equivalent standard of this University or another comparable institution accepted for this purpose has also been obtained.

(4) for a candidate who is seeking admission on the basis of a qualification from a university or comparable institution outside Hong Kong of which the language of teaching and/or examination is not English, shall satisfy the Faculty English language requirement with one of the following recognized English tests:

(i) Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): A score of 593 or above (paper-based test) or 97 or above (internet-based test)

(ii) International English Language Testing System (IELTS): An overall band score of 7 or above with no subtest below 6.5

The test score report is valid for two years for admissions purpose.

Master of Global Public Policy

1. A Bachelor's degree with honours or an equivalent qualification; and
2. 5-10 years of public policy work experience
3. A TOEFL IBT score of 100 with no less than a 20 in each section or an IELTS score of 7 with no less than 6 on each band

Master of Science in Business Analytics

1. A recognised Bachelor's degree or equivalent;
2. Statements from two referees; and
3. A TOEFL/IELTS* score if you are not from an English teaching university.​
(*A minimum score of 550 (paper-based test) or 80 (internet-based test) in TOEFL, or a minimum overall band of 7 with no subtest lower than 6 in IELTS is required.)

Postgraduate Diploma in Education (Teaching Chinese as a Second Language)

A candidate shall satisfy both the University Admission Requirements and the Programme Specific Requirements as listed below:

1. comply with the General Regulations (http://www.handbook.hku.hk/tpg/2016/appendices/Appendix_A.html) and the Regulations for Taught Postgraduate Curricula (http://www.handbook.hku.hk/tpg/2016/appendices/Appendix_B.html);
2. hold a Bachelor's degree of this University or a qualification of equivalent standard from this University or another comparable institution accepted for this purpose; preferably with a major in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign/Second Language, Chinese Language, Chinese Literature, Psychology or a relevant major;
3. for a candidate who is seeking admission on the basis of a qualification from a university or comparable institution outside Hong Kong of which the language of teaching and/or examination is not English, shall satisfy the University English language requirement applicable to high degrees as prescribed under General Regulation G2(b).
a) a score of 550 or above (paper-based test) or  80 or above (internet-based test) in the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) #; or
b) a minimum overall band of 6 with no subtest lower than 5.5 in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) #; or
c) grade C or above in either the Overseas General Certificate of Education, the International General Certificate of Secondary Education, or the Cambridge Test of Proficiency in English Language.
4. satisfy the examiners in a qualifying examination, if required.

An application for exemption from the above requirements shall be considered on a case by case basis.
