About the Faculty
The Faculty of Business and Economics takes an entrepreneurial approach to meeting the challenges and embracing the opportunities of a rapidly changing global economy and business environment by drawing together the strengths of seven academic areas, namely Accounting and Law, Economics, Finance, Innovation and Information Management, Marketing, Management, and Strategy and International Business.
Our students can choose from an unusually rich set of cross-disciplinary studies which equips them with the vision and practical tools necessary for becoming successful leaders in Hong Kong, Greater China, and further afield, and also provides a strong grounding in both theoretical and applied aspects of economics, allowing students to analyse how business and policy decisions are made in a dynamic world.
The Faculty offers nine undergraduate programmes: BBA, BBA(Acc&Fin), BBA(IBGM), BBA(IS), BBA(Law)&LLB, BEcon, BEcon&Fin, BFin(AMPB), and BSc(QFin). The first three programmes normally take four years and are designed to provide students with an in-depth understanding of the key aspects of the field of management. In addition, they enable students to view Asia from both regional and international perspectives. The BBA(IBGM) is an interdisciplinary programme in international business and global management. It includes an overseas exchange and an international field trip/internship. The BBA(IS) and BBA(Law)&LLB programmes are offered in collaboration with other departments; students will pursue two degrees over five years. Students only need to obtain the first degree for admission to the fifth year of study, which leads to the second degree. The undergraduate programmes BEcon, BEcon&Fin, BFin(AMPB), and BSc(QFin) integrate theoretical understanding of economics and finance with practical applications, using examples from Hong Kong and across the globe. Students are given the latitude to tailor the combination of the courses they take to align with their particular academic and professional interests.
The Faculty’s undergraduate programmes focus on skills and concepts that are relevant to regional needs and global context. Combining high-calibre training with essential support networks from the business community as well as the academia, students are prepared for taking up leadership roles in the rapidly evolving business landscape and economic environment of the Asia-Pacific Region and beyond, or for pursuing further academic studies and research in these fields.
Note: The fifth year of the BBA(IS) and BBA(Law)&LLB programmes are operated on a self-financing basis; students are therefore required to pay more than the standard undergraduate tuition fees. Students enrolled in the optional year of study can apply for financial assistance under the government's Non-means-tested Loan Scheme .
