Why Indonesian Students Choose The University of Hong Kong
- 3rd most international university in the world (Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2017)
- 26th in the world (QS World University Rankings 2018)
- Nearly 100% graduate employment rate for 11 consecutive years.
Nearly 40% of HKU's graduates are able to secure a job offer even before they graduate. Therefore, it is not surprising that a majority of our graduates from around the world choose to stay in Hong Kong and work. This bustling metropolis is full of opportunities and graduates can easily get a work visa. HKU has helped several students launch their careers in Hong Kong and rest of the world.
Many of our students also say that taking up internships during semester breaks is how they narrowed down their interests, gained experience, travelled and even secured jobs. HKU has a culture that actively encourages students to take up internships; our student advisory body, CEDARS has several resources which students can use to find internships that match their interests.
Hear From Our Students
When I came to HKU, my future aspiration was to be a scientist that’s why I majored in Food and Nutrition Science as part of my Bachelor of Science degree. The flexible curriculum allowed me to take up Finance as my second major, these majors along with my electives really broadened my horizons. My learning continued outside the classroom, I did several internships in different fields like marketing, equity research, start-up, and consulting. These internships helped me improve my soft skills (communication, time management, etc) - which prepared me for the real world. However, the biggest impact of these internships was not getting a job but figuring out what kind of job I like or dislike. After four years of mixing and matching courses, internships and other activities; my interests in finance triumphed over my interests in science and here I am happily working as a consultant in McKinsey and Company.
I have worked as a research assistant for the University as well as a business management intern for established companies. Applying through CEDARS, I have found that there are many opportunities available. I interned at a consultancy company specializing in marketing and public relations strategy, I was exposed to a variety of different industries. Double majoring in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology and Marketing, I have always been fascinated with the world of healthcare. I get excited about new medical breakthroughs, and I am highly curious in the effective management of healthcare systems. From my observation, I see that the industry is ever-changing with the evolution of consumer behavior and technology. For that reason, I chose to work for a multi-national company in Japan, Astellas Pharma, and I am excited to help shape the future the industry!
